Ways to protect yourself and others from Covid-19

Important ways to slow the spread

  • Wear a mask that completely covers your nose and mouth to protect yourself and others.
  • Stay 6 feet apart with whom you don’t live.
  • Get a Covid-19 vaccine when it is available to you.
  • Avoid crowds and enclosed spaces with poor ventilation.
  • Often wash your hands with soap and water. Use a hand sanitizer if soap and water is not available.

Wear a mask

  • Everyone 2 years of age and older should wear masks in public.
  • You should wear a mask in addition to stay 6 feet apart, especially if you are around with whom you don’t live.
  • If  someone in your house has Covid-19, everyone in the house should take precautions including wearing masks to avoid spread to others.
  • Clean your hands or use a hand sanitizer before wearing your mask.
  • Wear a mask to cover your nose and mouth and keep it under your chin.
  • Wear a mask that fits snugly against the sides of face, slipping the loops over your ears or tying the strings behind your head.
  • If you have to keep adjusting your mask, it doesn’t fit properly, and you might need to find a different type of mask or brand.
  • Make sure that you can breathe easily.
On February 2, 2021, masks are required on planes, buses, trains, and other forms of public transportation traveling into, within, or out of the United States and in U.S. transportation hubs such as airports and stations.

Stay 6 feet apart with others

Inside your house: Avoid being in close contact with people who are sick.
  • If possible, stay 6 feet apart or 2 meters between someone who is sick and their family members.
  • Ouside your house: Stay 6 feet apart with whom you don’t live.
  • Keep in mind that some people without symtoms can spread the virus to you.
  • Stay at least 6 feet apart (about 2 arm lengths) with others.
  • Keeping distance from others is especially important for people who are at higher risk of getting very sick.
Get vaccinated

  • Authorized COVID-19 vaccines can help protect you from COVID-19.
